asking for help
hi friend,
when the rating on there is room for all of you here got tanked on amazon last week (i’m personally blaming the homophobes), i was reminded that all of the first reviews on my past self-published books came to fruition because i asked people i knew to write reviews.
you’ll come back to yourself sold less than 1,000 copies in its first year, but it had the nicest reviews from my friends within a few days.
when i was reminded of this last week, i had a bit of a humbling moment.
no matter how many followers i have, how many copies my books have sold–the first people to support me will always be friends, will always be people that have cheered me on these past few years, will always be people i cheer on in return.
i felt a lot of gratitude as i reached out to the people who bought there is room for all of you here within the first week and asked them to review it.
every response was yes, and now instead of 1 and 2 star ratings with no explanation, i have some really lovely reviews from some really lovely people.
the real people who support you matter. and they’ll appreciate you reaching out to them for help. everyone is busy and has chaotic lives, so they might not be able to anticipate your needs. but when you ask, people will show up for you.
i feel so lucky to have built these connections with very cool people who have my back. if you’re one of the ones who wrote me a review last week, i know i already said it, but i really do appreciate you more than you know.
and if you’ve supported me in any other way, whether that’s buying a book, sharing a reel, or telling a friend about my books, thank you, thank you, thank you.
i still can’t believe i get to do this for a living, and this week was just a little reminder of how important it is to me to keep showing up for creatives like they show up for me.
xoxo
