Do you have tips for how you grew a following on TikTok and Instagram? I published my first book of poetry through a small publisher who used KDP. I don’t make back more than I put into advertising/marketing. Does this mean aim just not as good a writer?
Eye opening and this is very spot on with how my intuition felt about going into trad. I don’t care to go trad tbh. 20 copies sold of my limited edition book at $20 USD made me back what I spent on printing those books and more. This doesn’t even include selling out and then moving to Amazon a year later. I make more $$$ self-published and I’m able to launch WHEN I want.
Thank you Michaela for this. You’re a star. Congrats on all your success and cheers to your new home. If you ever need a poet friend from Toronto to come visit you, let me know 🤪
I've always loved how honest you are when it comes to the publishing industry. Trad publishing is everybody's dream, but once we're there, it seems so bleak and dismal.
aw thank you robin! i’ve had a ton of conversations about this with poets behind closed doors, but the industry won’t change without public transparency
Love how candidly you speak about this, Michaela! xxxx

This confirms why I self-published.
